Description
These homemade plant-based strips are what dreams are made of… Extra firm tofu coated in savory dukkah made from almonds, hazelnuts, sesame seeds, and LOTS of spices. A healthy vegan protein that will be requested again and AGAIN!
Ingredients
Scale
Dukkah:
1/2 Cup Raw Almonds
1/3 Cup Raw Hazelnuts
2 Tbsp Raw Sesame Seeds
1 tsp Ground Cumin
1 tsp Ground Coriander
1/4 tsp Allspice
1/2 tsp Salt
1/2 tsp Pepper
Tofu Strips:
2 Tbsp Flax Seed Meal
6 Tbsp Warm Water
1 Brick Extra Firm Tofu
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 400°F.
- Place the warm water and flax seed meal in a bowl and stir to combine. Set aside.
- In a dry frying pan over medium heat, toast the almonds, hazelnuts and sesame seeds for 3-5 minutes. The edges of the sesame seeds will become slightly brown.
- Place the toasted nuts/seeds and the dry spices into a food processor and pulse until it becomes a coarse like consistency. Transfer to a large bowl and set aside.
- Drain the tofu, wrap it in a paper towel and press it slightly to extract as much liquid as possible. Do not press too much to compromise the shape.
- Cut the tofu into your desired shape. We like finger sized strips.
- Dip each piece of tofu into the flax mixture and then into the dukkah. Make sure the tofu is coated completely in the mixture.
- Place the coated pieces onto a parchment paper lined baking sheet.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes. Turn the pieces once halfway through to encourage even browning.
- Serve immediately while warm. They can be enjoyed plain or with your favorite condiment for dipping.
- Refrigerate leftovers in an air-tight container for up to 5 days. When reheating, we recommend using the oven so they remain crispy.
