Have you ever looked at the price of some of the boxed seed crackers out there and thought they were crazy for charging so much money for so little product? We have too. We were absolutely sick of paying almost 8$ for a box of crackers that will most likely be finished in one serving between us.
It wasn’t until a recent trip to a small Amish store in upstate New York that we thought we could make them ourselves. We were looking at several reasonably priced seeds and nuts they had and I think we have the idea to make these crackers at the same time. We have been addicted ever since.
We make these while we blend up some fresh hummus or take them with us for small but filling lunches. We have added dried jalapeño to the recipe as well to spice them up a bit. These crackers are amazing for budget minded people as well as people that just love delicious food with simple ingredients.
- ½ Cup Raw Chia Seeds
- ½ Cup Sunflower Seeds
- ½ Cup Roasted Pumpkin Seeds
- ¼ Cup Flax Seeds
- ¼ Cup Black Sesame Seeds
- ¼ Cup White Sesame Seeds
- 1 Tbsp Garlic Powder
- 1 Tbsp Rosemary
- 1 tsp Salt
- 1 tsp Pepper
- ¼ tsp Smoked Paprika
- ¼ tsp Cayenne Pepper
- 1 Cup Water
- Preheat the oven to 350 Degrees
- Combine all ingredients into a large bowl and stir to incorporate. Let the mixture sit for 10-15 minutes to allow the water to absorb.
- Check to see if there is water still pooled in the bottom of the bowl. If so let sit for a little longer.
- On a parchment paper lined baking sheet, spread out the mixture in a thin even layer. If you want thinner crackers use two baking sheet and divide the mixture between them. Score the spread mixture into squares to allow for easy breaking when they are cooked.
- Place into the oven for 1 hour. We check them periodically just to be safe especially if we made the crackers on the thinner side. (One time we accidently burned them slightly but they were still quite good!)
- Allow to cool and carefully break up the crackers
- Serve with your favorite hummus, salsa, or eat plain. They are terrific anyway especially when they are still slightly warm from the oven.
