I honestly believe we use this kitchen tool every day. Well maybe more like 5 out of 7 days because sometimes we have leftovers! But truly, once you start cooking regularly, you NEED to have a citrus juicer. We have tried other styles but we also end up coming back to the plain and simple wooden reamer. It just works. No fancies bells or whistles.
Now you may be asking yourself, “Why is this a kitchen essential?” Here are 5 facts you may or may not have known about citrus fruit:
- Citrus fruits are so named because they contain large amounts of citric acid, which gives them their distinctive sharp and bitter-sweet flavor.
- Citrus fruits are rich in vitamins and nutrients especially calcium and vitamin C. They have also been linked to reducing the risk of heart disease and some forms of cancer.
- Fresh squeezed juice is always more flavorful than store-bought because as citrus juice sits, it loses nutrients not even mentioning the preservatives that are typically added to prolong shelf-life.
- Many citrus fruits originated from southeast Asian countries. Lemons are believed to have originated from Northern India and limes are believed to come from Malaysia.
- Lemons and limes have hundreds of uses including quickly cleaning and disinfecting your microwave or fridge, sanitizing your cutting board, keeping guacamole green, lightening age spots, or even make soggy lettuce crisp again to name a few.
And these are just some of the reasons you need to be using more citrus in your own life not even mentioning how great pasta or pizza tastes with that little extra squeeze on top. Lemons and limes are incredibly versatile and inexpensive. Furthermore, we have tried other types of juicers, but we always come back to our wooden reamer. It’s compact and doesn’t take up a lot of space. It’s easy to use with no directions needed and it’s made out of renewable material so mother earth will thank you. We love our citrus juicer and I truly believe you will probably be using it almost every day too.
