There is nothing better than discovering new spicy condiments. Zhoug is a hot spicy sauce that originates from Yemenite cuisine and has now become very popular in North America and Europe. Trader Joes even started carrying their own version a few months ago. But the great thing… it is so quick and easy to make at home!
However, not only did we want to make a homemade version that used roasted garlic rather than fresh, but we also added another non-traditional ingredient- avocado! It still has the great spicy cilantro taste of zhoug but the avocado adds a layer of creaminess.
This sauce can be added to wraps, sandwiches, grain bowls, or even pizza. We have tried it in all of the above and I’m sure there are plenty of other things we will be trying it with soon. If you like cilantro, roasted garlic, and anything spicy, then this creamy zhoug will be your next condiment obsession. It has now become ours.
Also, please let us know if you have any other recipes that you like to include it with. There truly is nothing better than discovering new quick and easy condiments from around the world. But the only thing better is sharing.
