Authentic Lebanese Hummus
Hummus is one of those things that initially we didn’t think you could mess up. It’s quick and easy to make and it only requires a handful of ingredients. But, then we tried the hummus from Brooklyn’s famous Sahadi’s market. Hands down, what we were making or buying, didn’t come close.
The reason Sahadi’s hummus is so incredible is because it is truly authentic Lebanese hummus. It’s extra creamy, smooth, and goes down like candy. But it’s also packed with plant-based protein. This Middle Eastern dip really is the best stuff on earth!
Extra Spicy Flavor
Although traditional hummus has its place and there are definitely times that we need a classic version, this spicy hummus has become our go-to. But be warned, it is spicy. It’s deliciously robust with a fiery finish. Yum, yum, and YUM.
Furthermore, you don’t need to go out and buy any peppers or other ingredients that you might not have at home because this hot and spicy hummus only requires a handful of dry spices. Yep, this really is the best homemade hummus, period.
WHAT YOU WILL NEED:
- Canned Chickpeas – Easy to find and the perfect base for this creamy Middle Eastern dip.

- Ice Cubes – The ice cubes add moisture and help to make it extra creamy.
- Tahini Paste – Tahini adds oil to the recipe which helps in the blending process along with a nutty flavor.

FAQ & Spicy Lebanese Hummus Tips:
-
Why is my homemade hummus grainy?
- The graininess comes from the skin of the chickpeas. By removing the outer layer as directed in this recipe, your hummus will be extra smooth and creamy.
-
Is hummus healthy for you?
- Yes! It’s made with natural ingredients and full of protein thanks to the chickpeas. However, it is not a low calorie food, so just be mindful of your serving size.
-
Tip 1: Remove the chickpea skin.
- Although it takes a minute, this step is so worth it. Simply put the chickpeas in a bowl covered with water and add the baking soda. Let it sit for a few minutes. Then, run them under water, while rubbing them with your fingers to quickly and easily remove the outer skin.
-
Tip 2: Add an ice cube or two while blending the ingredients.
- This trick will add necessary moisture to your hummus, without the need for excess oil. It also helps make the hummus extra smooth and creamy.

Hummus really should be in its own food group. It’s satisfying, healthy, and goes great with just about everything. But don’t settle for store-bought hummus, make your own authentic hummus at home with just a handful of ingredients. Snacking will never be the same. Enjoy!
