Vegan Mozzarella & Pear Grilled Cheese

Cheese… Grilled Cheese… YUM! There are some meals that people think can’t be recreated plant-based– think again! This Vegan Mozzarella & Pear Grilled Cheese is out of this world good. So good, others might not even believe that it’s vegan!

Cheese Please!

Plant-based cheese is not what it once was. There are countless brands now available at almost every grocery store and more than that, they are delicious. Creamy, salty, and yes, even melty!  For this grilled cheese we used the brand Follow Your Heart, which melts beautifully and that’s just what a grilled cheese needs.

However, if you would rather make your own vegan mozzarella, we highly recommend that too.  In fact, check out this Lemon Pesto Grilled Cheese made with a homemade mozzarella.  But if you are looking for a tasty and simple meal, store bought is a great way to go.

Pear? YES!

I know to some, pear sounds quite strange to put on a grilled cheese. But trust us! The combination of sweet pear with salty mozzarella just works.  Then, add some fresh sage to compliment the pear and you have one killer combo.  This is NOT your typical grilled cheese and you will be SO GLAD that it’s not.

We used Forelle pears which are a slightly sweeter variety that are also a little bit firmer.  It works great for this vegan grilled cheese because it is harder to work with when a pear that is too soft. But, truly at variety tastes delicious with the vegan mozzarella. Just be sure it isn’t too ripe because it will be more difficult to work with.

Ready In 15 minutes

The best thing about this Vegan Mozzarella & Pear Grilled Cheese is that it can be ready to eat in under 15 minutes flat. It’s a perfect easy recipe for a weeknight or any time when you need a laid back meal. Simply serve it with a fresh side salad and you have a well-rounded dinner.

Vegan Mozzarella & Pear Grilled Cheese

Ingredients
  • 4 Slices of Bread (Your Choice)
  • 8 oz. Vegan Mozzarella (We Used Follow Your Heart Brand) (Sliced)
  • 2 Fresh Pears (Sliced and Cored)
  • 1 Small Bunch Fresh Sage
  • 1 Tbsp Vegan Butter
Instructions
  1. Melt ½ the butter on a griddle over medium heat.
  2. Once the butter has melted, place two slices of bread down on the griddle.
  3. Place cheese, sage and pear on the bread. Top the two sandwiches with the other slices of bread. Cook for 2-3 minutes or until browned to your liking.
  4. Flip each sandwich over and place the rest of the butter in the griddle.
  5. Cook for and additional 2-3 minutes until browned.
  6. Serve immediately and enjoy.
