A classic drink with a little flair— this Cardamom Gin & Tonic has all the incredible flavor of the traditional but it has a lovely floral addition. Best yet, it can quickly and easily be made with only 4 ingredients with no shaking required!
A Classic Cocktail with a Twist
We love using cardamom in our cooking, but we really enjoy taking up cocktails a notch or two with cardamom’s aromatic complexity. In fact, it’s the star ingredient in both our Cardamom Grapefruit Margarita and Cardamom Orange Blossom Martini.
However, this cocktail recipe features a quick shake of cardamom bitters rather than using seeds or ground cardamom. Easy-peasy!
Ingredient Spotlight: Cardamom Bitters
There are few spices with the versatility and aromatic complexity of cardamom, which is also appropriately referred to as “queen of the spices.”
By using cardamom bitters, one receives all of the incredible flavor in an easy to use exact. Simply add approximately 5 drops to each drink and you’re done.
But don’t let the small amount fool you! The bitters add incredible flavor to a traditional gin & tonic and a warm and complex aroma.
Additionally, cardamom has a piney and fruity flavor that melds splendidly with the gin and the fresh lime juice. Yep, this adult beverage is one you will want to enjoy again and again!
WHAT YOU WILL NEED:
- Gin – Herbaceous gin is a great base for this sippable drink.
- Tonic Water – Bubbly tonic water helps to blend the flavors and gives a fun fizz.
- Cardamom Bitters – Rich with earthy flavor, cardamom is a no brainer combo with gin. You won’t want a regular G&T ever again.
- Lime – Tangy fresh lime juice brightens up this cocktail and provides a refreshing finish.
FAQ & Cardamom Gin & Tonic Tips:
-
Can I use cardamom pods or ground cardamom instead of extract?
- Yes. However, we would recommend muddling and straining cardamom pods over ground cardamom so your drink doesn’t have a layer of sediment at the bottom. But any method will still add amazing flavor.
-
Is it okay to substitute lemon juice instead of lime?
- Yep, any citrus will ultimately add a terrific tangy flavor.
-
Serve extra cold
- G & Ts are best enjoyed very chilled, so be sure to add plenty of ice and we also suggest keeping your tonic water in the refrigerator.
-
Tip: Use your cardamom extract for more than just adult drinks!
- Try adding cardamom bitters to milky tea, baked goods, or even savory main dishes for an intense and complex flavor profile.
