Making Fries into a Meal
We’re in the midst of another cold spell here in New York and that means satisfying comfort food is a must. But we also are quickly approaching the big game (the Super Bowl that is!) and therefore, it requires a recipe that’s finger-licking good.
These phenomenal jackfruit nacho fries are a winner on both fronts. I mean really, can you do any better when you combine nachos with french fries? We think not.
WHAT YOU WILL NEED:
- Potatoes – Making your own french fries is easy and so much healthier when made in an air fryer
- Vegan Jackfruit Queso – This recipe for creamy cashew cheese packed with savory jackfruit is the perfect addition to crispy french fries.
- Guacamole – packed with veggies and a little citrus, this recipe for Spicy Chunky Homemade Guacamole is a must
- Salsa – Zesty with some spice, salsa is a must for these nacho fries
- Cilantro – Bright and fresh, the sprinkle of fresh cilantro gives the dish a pop of color and flavor.
FAQ & Jackfruit Nacho Fry Tips:
-
Is this recipe gluten-free?
- Yup. No gluten needed.
-
Where can you buy jackfruit?
- This recipe requires young green jackfruit which is easiest to use in the canned form. We often buy ours from Trader Joes or from a Chinese market; however it can also be purchased online.
-
Can you use a substitute for the cashews in the vegan cheese?
- Yes. Homemade plant-based cheese can also be made from almonds or Brazil nuts but we find using cashews makes the creamiest dairy-free cheese.
-
Cook your french fries last
- Prepare all of the other ingredients first to ensure that your fries will be nice and crispy for your nachos. But honestly, even if they become a little soggy, they still taste amazing.
-
Toppings Galore.
- Can one have too many toppings on a nacho? We don’t think so. Tofu Sour Cream, pickled or fresh jalapeños, hot sauce, or green onion all make excellent additions to this recipe.
Possible Nacho Variations:
This recipe for nacho fries is quite flexible, so feel free to experiment and try your fun take. Here are a few options that we like to tinker with…
- Switch up the base. Although french fries are so fun, they can also be replaced with tater tots, roasted sweet potatoes, waffle fries, or of course good ‘ol tortilla chips.
- Make it spicy. Add additional peppers like serrano or habanero into your jackfruit saute or add some cayenne pepper to your cashew nacho cheese for some extra heat.
- Time Saver. Use store bought cheese instead of making your own or you can make the vegan jackfruit queso a day or two in advance as well to save time.

Description
Plant-based comfort food at its best. These hearty vegan jackfruit nacho fries are crispy, cheesy, and a must for any big game or just for a cozy night in.
Ingredients
- 3 Large Potatoes (Cut into sticks)
- 1 cup Vegan Jackfruit Queso
- 1/2 cup Guacamole (try this recipe for Spicy Chunky Homemade Guacamole)
- 1/4 cup Cilantro (Chopped, Garnish)
- 1/4 cup Salsa (Garnish)
- 1 Jalapeño (Sliced thin, optional)
Instructions
- Wash and cut the potatoes into sticks like French fries (We used a mandoline for easy cutting.) Place the cut potatoes into a bowl filled with water. (This removes starch and keeps the potatoes from turning brown.) Allow to soak for 10-20 minutes. Preheat the air fryer to 400°F.
- While the potatoes soak, start to prepare the jackfruit queso and guacamole. Set aside.
- Preheat the oven to 400°F.
- Remove the cut potatoes from the water and place them into the air fryer. Add 1 tsp of sesame oil, cook until golden brown. Approx 20 minutes. Shake half way through.
- Place the fries into an oven safe dish and cover with the queso. Cook for 5-7 minutes to warm the queso. Remove and add guacamole, cilantro, salsa, and jalapeños, if desired.
- Serve immediately and enjoy!
- Leftover jackfruit queso can be refrigerated in an air tight container for up to 5 days.
