A Deliciously Crunchy Garnish

We have never shied away from a strong cocktail. In fact, our classic weekend cocktail is often a Dirty Vodka Martini. But sometimes you just have to switch things up and this caperberry martini is a terrific alternative!

Although capers are used more frequently in the kitchen, caperberries make an incredible addition to a cocktail. They have a smoother finish than capers but they are just as salty and briny with a fun crunch.

WHAT YOU WILL NEED:

  • Vodka This basically tasteless spirit lends itself perfectly to the tangy brine.
  • Caperberry Brine  –  Bright and salty this brine is lighter than olive brine and makes this drink easy to drink.
  • Dry Vermouth  – The subtle flavors in dry vermouth smooth out the kick from the vodka, making you go for sip after sip.
  • Caperberries  –  Salty with a nice crunch, garnishing with a caperberry or two adds a little surprise at the end.

FAQ & Caperberry Vodka Martini Tips:

  • What is the difference between a caper and a caperberry?

    • Capers are the flower buds; however, if it is left to bloom, the capers turn into a fruit, which are caperberries. They are then pickled just like capers.
  • Can capers be used in place of the caperberries?

    • Absolutely. Just use the brine from the capers as directed and add a few capers to the bottom of your glasses or you can put them on a cocktail pick for easier eating.
  • Tip 1: Shake, don’t stir.

    • Although there is some debate (thanks James Bond!), we recommend shaking your drink with a cocktail shaker. It allows the martini to get extra cold.
  • Tip 2: Serve extra cold

    • A vodka martini is best served extra cold. After shaking your drinks until a frost covers the outside of the cocktail shaker, pour (while straining the ice), and serve immediately with your garnish.

Swap the Olives!

We will be honest, sometimes we are in the mood for nice salty olives in our martinis and keep it traditional.  However, from time to time we now also crave the crunchy addition of a caperberry and we have a feeling you will feel the same after trying this Caperberry Vodka Martini. Cheers!
